Three New Coffee Shops Bringing Variety to the Valley

Three New Coffee Shops Bringing Variety to the Valley

One of my top favorite things to do when I'm not working at a coffee shop is visiting other coffee shops. I could make a whole day out of a coffee crawl. I have a lot of fun crawling by myself, but sharing that with friends is always a plus. In recent months, Phoenix has experienced a boom within the coffee scene. Multiple new coffee bars have opened across the Valley, and the best part about it is the variety of both in and out-of-state roasters they're all serving (especially for home brewers who want a retail bag now). Over the weekend, I hung out with friends at three of these shops, enjoying my experience at every one. Visit them all if you have the chance!

Who They Are: Owners, Mia & Nico, share a love for good coffee, fresh design, and nice cars- more specifically, 356 Porches. The shop, itself, is in the "garage" adjacent to White House Collective, a shared space for artists and creatives. The coffee bar looks like the hip garage you wish you had at home. Porsche-inspired decor, a great mix of wood and concrete, and a custom teal La Marzocco GB5 adorns the counter. Did I mention the sick 356 that sits outside?

Who They Serve: Four Barrel Coffee from San Francisco, California.

What To Order: I love a good cappuccino and they have good cappuccinos.

Retail Beans Offered: Yes!

Ocotillo Coffee Bar

Who They Are: Ocotillo is a New American Restaurant in Midtown Phoenix, coming to be known for their brunch, extensive wine menu, and shipping container architecture. The stand-alone coffee bar sits in a rusted container on the north side of the property. House-made pastries tease you from behind glass panels when you walk in from the street, with seasonal signature drinks written next to them. The space is clean and bright, but the outdoor sitting bar is where it's at. Having coffee with a bigger group? There are picnic tables all over the huge courtyard that separates the coffee bar from the restaurant. But I mean, you might as well grab a mimosa to go with your Fruity Pebble Milk Latte.

Who They Serve: Sightglass Coffee from San Francisco, California.

What To Order: Pour over! Every time I go in, the offerings have been different (I've only been twice, but still!). Ryan & I both enjoyed our cups of Sightglass's Finca Alaska from Costa Rica. They're also serving this as cold brew, currently!

Retail Beans Offered: Yes!

Who They Are: One of the only multi-roaster shops in town, Be is surely coming up. They live inside MonOrchid in the heart of the Roosevelt Row Arts District in Downtown Phoenix. Art by popular Phoenix muralist, JB Snyder, decorate the walls. They offer ice cream that's made in-house (it's everything to me), which means affogatos. While you're enjoying your caffeine treat and waiting for your English Egg Sammy with avocado, tomato, and muenster (breakfast served all day; lunch is available, as well), MonOrchid is open to roam through. Be Operations Manager, Braden, will happily give you a tour of the building, where you'll see neighbors, Bison Made and Bosque.

Who They Serve: Swillings Coffee from Phoenix for espresso & Huckleberry Roasters from Denver, Colorado for pour overs.

What To Order: The coffee offered for pour overs changes monthly, allowing extra variety. Also order the affogato. And all of the breakfast sandwiches. Finish it off with more ice cream.

Retail Beans Offered: Yes!
