Barista Style - Day Off @ Futuro
In recent months, I've been really focusing on trying to express myself more creatively, especially through style and fashion. It doesn't matter whether I'm working on bar for 10 hours or enjoying a day off hanging out at my favorite coffee shop -- I try to look good always haha!
Being comfortable is always one of my top priorities when getting dressed for the day. Many of my days are filled with errands and activities, and it's important for me to wear something I'll be comfortable in all day. I keep it quite minimal and monochromatic, for the most part, but bold pieces like this caped t-shirt I thrifted from the now-closed, Rag-O-Rama, helped make my outfit standout. I try not to have too much going on in my outfits, so I kept it simple with basic leggings and black athletic shoes I found in the men's section of Buffalo Exchange. I'm very minimal in my use of accessories, but I've been obsessed with my enamel Sonoran Desert pin from Jar of Buttons, these wire cat-eye sunglasses from Buffalo Exchange, and simple gold earrings, like these ones from Rocksbox to bring it all together. Because I've started riding my bike around Phoenix, I had to ditch the shoulder purse and find a backpack for all of my things, and thankfully Buffalo Exchange had this cute, faux-leather backpack that I snatched real quick. This look is seriously so comfy, and I would sleep in it if I could (if I had time to sleep 😅)!
Futuro has been one of my favorite places to get coffee on my days off. My friends, Bill and Shelby, work there, and they're two of the most welcoming and knowledgable baristas I know. Futuro is an extension of the Palabra Collective, which is also an art gallery and a hair salon. The art changes on a monthly basis, and Palabra hosts evening receptions for each featured artist. I've made it a routine to go and check out each installation, especially with friends.
Using coffee from 49th Parallel out of Vancouver, BC, Futuro has multiple drinks on the menu worth trying. I've been switching back and forth between ordering the Espresso Tonico or their mocha -- neither disappoints! The brightness of the Epic espresso from 49th pairs very well with the sweet, herbaceous tonic water, creating a refreshing beverage that I usually enjoy having in the mornings. I'm not a big fan of mochas, but the Rancho Gordo chocolate Futuro uses is sourced from Mexico and has unrefined sugar and cinnamon in it, giving it a slight spice and a subtle, pleasant sweetness. Pair that with an excellently-pulled shot and local Arizona milk, and it's chocolate heaven in a cup. You'll probably find me there tomorrow with one in hand!
So, what's your go-to style on your day off? What are some of your favorite things to do? Let me know because I need some new hobbies that aren't work. 😅😆 Until next time!
Futuro is located at 909 N 1st Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85004. Their hours are 8AM-3PM Tuesday-Sunday.
